3 Day Refresh Review

Hey Peeps! I finished my 3 Day Refresh quite some time ago, and since today is Thanksgiving, it is time to start looking at when I will do the next one. I think I will go for January 3rd-5th. Read ahead, and if you want to join me, let me know in the comments below! I will lead a private Facebook group through the process and we will support each other. It is so much more satisfying, not to mention easier, when we all have some support.

So, I have done this Refresh 5 times now. Each time, within the 3 days, I have lost 4-6 pounds and 4-5 inches. I only measure my natural waist and around my belly button for this. The program really works to shed off a little layer, refocus my priorities, get my portion control back under wraps, and teach me (again) that I can survive without meat and dairy.


Prep Day

When you receive your box, it will look like the photo above. You will have the food guide, the schedule, and your Vanilla Fresh & Fiber Sweep packets. If you are not currently drinking Shakeology (what IS that?? www.myshakeology.com/jessahicks), it will come with 3 days worth of that also. You can also get a months worth of Shakeology with the 3 Day Refresh and save some $$. As I said before, if you are interested in that, let’s chat. My purpose here is to inform you, not to sell a product.

So back to Prep Day. I always take my guide out and get something to write with. I try to stick to the foods at the top of the food list, as they are listed in the order of what is most nutritious. If I am going to do this, I might as well do it in the healthiest way possible, right?!

*side note: I shared this plan with my doctor, not mentioning Beachbody, that I am a Coach, or the name of the system. He said, “This is the healthiest detox I have ever seen. All veggies, lots of liquids and protein. You can’t go wrong with this plan unlike some of the others I have seen out there where you don’t even get to eat any food.” So SCORE!!


Day One

I filled in the blanks (for all days) and grocery shopped on Prep Day. So, Day 1 is typically pretty easy. I just follow the schedule. I will say that this is a bit more difficult when you are working at a place where you can’t eat all day or as you please. This does NOT mean that you cannot do the Refresh at all! You may choose to do it over a weekend and have just one day at work with it. My recommendation would be a Friday, as these days are typically more relaxed in office.

I like to add apple cider vinegar to my water in the morning. There is a whole host of great things this product does for you, and I prefer to use the Braggs brand. This photo shows a bit of the morning routine, as written in the schedule above. (Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar Info) There is no reason you have to do this part. Some people drink the water plain, some add essential oils. If you use oils internally, make sure they are suitable for ingestion. I only recommend Young Living brand for a lot of reasons, but this isn’t the place for all that either!

Mid-morning each day, you will get to enjoy the Fiber Sweep. This is a lemony-flavored drink. You will want to trust me when I tell you that you should mix it with ice cold water and chug it fast. If you get a cold headache, it will be worth it – and far better than letting it thicken up. Once it thickens, you cannot drink it. Also, make sure you are drinking plain water afterwards and all throughout the day. You do NOT want to add in extra fiber and not give your body the proper hydration to push it through. I can tell you from experience, if you don’t hydrate, you will be bloated and miserable – and may not make a trip to the restroom for a couple days. Not to be to graphic, but we all know that’s bad news.

Towards the end of the day, you shouldn’t feel too hungry unless you’ve done a lot of running around or exercise. If you are crazy hungry, you can add a veggie. Or, like a lot of us who do the Refresh regularly, just go to bed early.

Make sure you drink all of your water for the day!!


Day Two

Day 2 is much of the same. I do, however, tend to get a headache on this day. It is normal and I hear the same thing from lots of people on Refresh. A lot of times it is due to the lack of caffeine that we are all so used to. Make sure you stay hydrated. Also, when you metabolism gets a jolt, that can cause a headache also.

Follow the plan. Drink your water. Remember that there are people who won’t get to eat at all today! Make sure you add in the extra tea that is optional. This will keep you feeling satisfied. Green tea has caffeine naturally, so if you are a coffee (or soda) drinker, make sure you have that. In the afternoon, you will want herbal tea, which is decaf.

Aside from the headache, you may also experience cold chills. I always do. I have done a little digging and from what I can tell, this is normal also.

Asparagus, very lightly sautéed, with mashed avocado, is one of my all time favorite snacks. I sprinkle Flavor God seasoning on all of it. Delicious! (FlavorGod Seasonings) I have asked Chris, the maker of the seasonings, to give us a discount code. I will share it here when I receive it!

I also want to say here that raw vegetables are recommended throughout this plan. You will see when and what veggies in the book. I do not eat very many raw vegetables because of my diverticulitis. However, when I do cook them down, it is only for a moment to heat them through and break down the outer cell wall. You do not want to cook the nutrients out of your vegetables!


Day Three

Good ol’ Day 3…the day where the struggle bus comes along. I am not going to lie. Day 3 is always difficult for me. This is the day I start to tell myself that I deserve to eat something that is not on the plan. Like, I don’t know….chicken! Candy! Martinis!

I tend to wake up very hungry on the last day. I have to really remind myself that I have already put in 2/3 of the hard work and not to ruin it. Having the water and tea first thing really helps the hunger subside. I am one of those that gets hangry. For real. My eyes may even shoot actual darts of fire out when I get that way. This is where having the support of a Challenge Group really helps! (What is a Challenge Group?) Also, I have often added in a hard boiled egg as a snack on Day 3. It doesn’t seem to have affected my results.

 


 

 

Post-Refresh

The day after the Refresh ends, I wake up, potty, get undressed, and weigh/measure myself. This is the best way to know exactly how much progress you’ve made. Often times, I am craving veggies by Day 4, so I will continue to eat them in larger portions than normal. I don’t know why I get out of this habit every few months. Life, I suppose. This is why the Refresh is so great – you can do it up to 12 times a year safely. I typically have done 3 per year since the product came out. I think I am going to do it 4 times in 2017. A quarterly shipment option is available and since I like the results so much, it seems worth it.

At the end of the Refresh, I always feel so great to have gotten my eating back on track. If you are looking forward to joining me for the next one, here are some tricks to maintain your results:

  1. Stay hydrated!
  2. Move your body every day, even if it is just a walk.
  3. Drink your Shakeology. It is their slogan, but it is also true – It is your daily dose of dense nutrition! I have been drinking it daily for over 3 years now and rarely miss a day. My husband and son love it, too!

Recipe Notes

I really love the Veggie Stir Fry recipe. We have added it into our regular dinner rotation and when I am off the refresh, I add grilled chicken. I love the freshly grated ginger that it calls for. Same with the Coconut Steamed Veggies. Delicious!

I also love the lemony green beans. They are very light and citrusy. Again, you can add chicken to them when you are off the Refresh. I use Flavor God Lemon-Pepper on the chicken and the meal comes right together.

One thing I absolutely don’t like is the Moroccan Carrot Salad. It is just weird.

The Cucumber-Tomato Salad can be eaten at lunch or dinner and I love the addition of fresh parsley they have put in this recipe.
